Western Michael D. W.

I was born into a family who has bred and exhibited pedigree animals for generations, including horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and of course dogs. My maternal grandmother owned and bred cockers with stock from the Lloyd’s famous “of Ware” kennels as well as black pugs and latterly labradors based on the famous “Sandylands” kennels of the Late Gewn Broadley.

My paternal grandparents bred pekes and working gundogs and border collies. It was through the labs that I got my first taste of showing and at a young age I caught the bug. At 15 I was allowed to pick my own breed, and to my parents initial horror I chose the breed that will was to become the love of my life, the Borzoi. My first hound went onto do very well in the ring for me and I was hooked. In the following 35 years I have bred or owned champion Borzois, Salukis, whippets, black pugs, including the top dog in the breed for 6 years, Sealyham terriers, WHWT and Boston terriers, I have also handled champion Irish Wolfhounds, Pharaoh hounds and Beagles.

At present I'm showing a new breed to us, a Kerry beagle, a group 6 breed which is sadly rare even here in Ireland.

As a judge I currently judge B I S all breeds, as well as all breeds and groups in groups 4, 6 and 10 and the all of the breeds in group 3.
